Khatam-e-Nabuwwat – Who is Last Prophet? Holy Prophet or Jesus son of Mary?

Ahmadiyya belief about Khatam-e-Nabuwwat (Seal of Prophets) is 100% in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sayings and Ahadith of the Holy Prophet (saw). Ahmadiyya belief is simple that Holy Prophet (saw) is the Seal of the Prophets and any prophet who is outside this Seal cannot come. Holy Prophet (saw) himself prophecised about a prophet in his Ummah and Holy Quran has also promised a prophet obedient to Holy Prophet. This prophet is named Imam Mahdi and Promised Messiah and is also called Jesus son of Mary for its similarities. The Holy Quran categorically declares that old Jesus son of Mary was a human being and a prophet and died in this world like all other previous prophets. This has been discussed in detail in this very blog.

Our non-Ahmadi Muslim brothers and sisters are confused and lost as to who is actually the “last prophet” in their sense of belief that no prophet can come after the holy prophet. On one hand they believe that Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the last prophet and that prophethood of any kind is now closed and yet they still believe that an old prophet Jesus son of Mary will come to rescue the Muslim Ummah.

New or Old

Whether its a new prophet of old prophet, a prophet remains a prophet, so whoever comes at the last becomes the last prophet. So who is actually the last prophet according to non-Ahmadiyya belief?

Khatamun Nabiyyeen

According to non-Ahmadiyya belief  Jesus son of Mary is still alive. So after his coming to this world and death they believe there will be no prophet after him. So who is the one who ended prophethood? Jesus son of Mary or Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) after whose death the world is yet to see Jesus son of Mary?

Belief on an Ummati (non-Prophet)?

When they are trapped in the above quagmire of opposite beliefs they try to take an escape by making a lame and baseless excuse that Jesus son of Mary will not be a prophet. Inna lillahe wa inna ilaihi rajeoon.

First thing to note is that if he is not a prophet then no one needs to believe in him. There is no requirement in Islam to believe a non-prophet. Every Muslim child knows that their are six articles of faith in Islam: Unity of God, His Angels, His Books, His Prophets, The Last Day, and Divine Decree.

Jesus is a Prophet wherever he is
The Holy Quran says:

He said, ‘I am a servant of Allah. He has given me the Book, and made me a Prophet;
‘And He has made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and has enjoined upon me Prayer and almsgiving so long as I live; (19:30,31)

Do these non-Ahmadis want to take away his prophethood against the clear words of the Holy Quran?

Again Holy Quran says:

And will make him a Messenger to the children of Israel (3:49)

How do we bring a prophet that is only for the children of Israel to the Muslim Ummah? Is non-Ahmadiyya belief not against this very clear promise of Allah (swt)?

Testimony from Ahadith

1) Sahih Muslim is one the most authentic books of Ahadith. In one of the Hadith Holy Prophet (saw) has called Jesus son of Mary that will come in the Ummah as Prophet of Allah, not once, not twice but four times. Click here to see the Hadith.

2) In Mishkat, another book of Ahadith in the six most authentic books of Ahadith, the Holy Prophet (saw) said that he was Khatam an-Nabiyyin before the creation of Adam.

Both Ahadith make it clear that Khatam an-Nibiyyin is not one that comes at the end of line but has greater meaning that only Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and old scholars of Islam believe. Those who make a hue and cry of so called Khatam-e-Nabuwwat should come forward and explain this Hadith how come so many prophets came when Holy Prophet (saw) was Khatam an-Nabiyyin before the creation of Adam.

Making an Ummati from outside – not allowed!

In another Hadith quoted by Imam Jalal-ud-Din and copied by Ashraf Ali Thanvi (a deobandi scholar and an eminent adversary of the Ahmadiyya) is that Prophet Moses (as) wished to be among one of the prophets of Ummat-e-Mohammadiyya, however Allah (swt) said that Prophet of this Ummah would be from among themselves. Moses (as) requested to make him a follower (Ummati) of that Prophet, Allah said, your period is of the past and their age is of the last. (You can read this Hadith in original here in couple of pages)

Conclusion
To hold two opposite beliefs at the same time is not justice. You cannot call both Jesus son of Mary and Holy Prophet (saw) last prophet. Only one can be last. It is now your choice which one you want to make Khatam-un-Nabiyeen. For Ahmadi Muslims, Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) is the Khatam-an-Nabiyeen.

One Reply to “Khatam-e-Nabuwwat – Who is Last Prophet? Holy Prophet or Jesus son of Mary?”

  1. Why do non-Ahmadi Muslims, who leave comments here, cannot even present one verse of the Holy Quran and tradition (Hadith) of the Holy Prophet(saw) that says Jesus Son of Mary (as) will lose his prophethood and will not be a prophet?

    The answer is obvious!
